About us

IT ALL STARTED WHEN…

The Melanoma Angel Network was founded by brother sister duo Tyler and Tricia Halstead along with a group of dedicated friends, family, and colleagues who understand and appreciate the struggle of living with a loved one - cancer patient. What initially was destined to be a memorial for our late mother has grown into the worldwide effort you see here today.

A Hummingbird? Many people have asked why a charity named the “Angel Network” would ever utilize branding of a hummingbird. And the answer is rather simple…

Hummingbirds have been ever present in our lives and early in my Mom’s diagnosis the Melanoma Research Foundation adopted the hummingbird as it’s mascot. As a family we began to cherish and take comfort in the sight of a hummingbird. To this day, in my most difficult / trying times I have repeatedly been joined by a hummingbird.

Now the hummingbird brings comfort and is a permanent reminder that even though my Mom is gone, she is still with me every step of the way.

INSPIRATION 1…

Cindy Halstead (mother of Tyler and Tricia) was the strongest, bravest, and happiest person this world may have ever seen.  Her infectious smile, personality, and compassion for others meant she unintentionally brought a community of people along her journey (her fight against this disease).  This community came to be known as her “Angel Network” and to this day the Angel Network has brought together people from the most unlikely of backgrounds to have become lifelong friends.

INSPIRATION 2…

Patricia Beckerman (mother of Cindy and grandmother of Tyler and Tricia) was the smartest, most selfless, and most genuine person we have ever met. Pat was a loving caring rock for an ever growing Angel Network of family and friends who would become family. The world will forever miss her many contributions.

INSPIRATION 3…

Don (Doc) Morris (mentor and professor for Tyler and Tricia) entered our lives at a most critical time. Shortly after our mom had passed Doc taught us the value of positive language, thoughts, and perseverance. Unfortunately Doc would pass away from Melanoma but his legacy will live on in the many students he inspired.
